Senior Regional Purchasing Manager

Location:  USA, Sparta MI

As a member of the global tesa Purchasing Network (tPN), the Senior Regional Manager Purchasing, North America is supporting the development of the global purchasing strategy for tesa, conveying regional activities and executing them in close cooperation with regional and global management in the areas of R&D, Marketing, Supply Chain, Production and Plant Purchasing.

The job holder has responsibility to continuously manage the existing supplier base, while developing and sourcing new suppliers to support local growth in region; responsible for managing entire supplier lifecycle (sourcing to phase-out) for region tesa tape North America (ttNA).

The job holder leads and is responsible for development of an organization with presently one Purchasing Manager as a direct report and a Plant Purchasing Manager as dotted (indirect) report. The position holder is a member of global tPN Management Team which has presently eight members and is responsible for the overall tesa corporate purchasing strategy and its guidelines.


Responsibilities:
  • Support the development of the global purchasing strategy for tesa and translation it into Regional implementation:  Develop and implement action packages through close coordination and collaboration with Regional Headquarter groups, Marketing, R&D and Supply Chain; tesa Plant Sparta (tPSp) Management Team & Plant Purchasing; tPN Global Category and Supplier Managers; and tesa Supply Network (tSN)
  • Corporate Compliance:  Responsible for developing Purchasing Compliance Guideline (PCG) training
  • process within region. Accountable for PCG implementation for tPN managed spend within region.
  • Project Portfolio Management:  Align and maintain project portfolio to ensure project scope and timing
  • requirements are met; address and solve resource availability conflicts with corresponding HQ / Regional / Plant Management
  • Continuously perform sustainable Cost Down in all relevant Category areas
  • Develop & implement regional Ts&Cs  / tools / KPIs aligned with global tPN
  • Develop and supervise tPN tesa tape North America purchasing organization
  • Manage existing supply base to support supply safety and control / reduce the cost level for tesa
  • Identify and qualify North American suppliers for North America, Europe and Asia
  • Establish purchasing contracts as needed for strategic suppliers
  • Provide material cost forecast for identified spend
  • Provide management and/or direct support for four primary Purchasing categories in North America:
Indirect purchasing:
  • Items such as Machines and Services
Third Party purchasing:
  • Third Party Products are finished products tesa tape purchases from other (tape) manufacturers
R&D purchasing:
  • Close cooperation with ttNA R&D
  • Define and execute purchasing objectives in ttNA R&D projects
  • Identify and qualify NA suppliers for new tesa products with a focus on supplier innovation
Direct Materials (Serial purchasing):
  • Identify, bundle and negotiate Raw Materials for ttNA serial production
  • Identification and qualification of alternative suppliers
  • Solve or escalate supply bottlenecks and supplier quality issues

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor of Science degree required (Engineering, or related field); Master’s degree is a plus
  • Five or more years of strategic purchasing experience required
  • Tape / adhesive / chemical industry experience is a plus
  • Demonstrated understanding and experience in industrial product development processes
  • Proven track record in developing / applying state of the art industrial purchasing tools and methods
  • Strong planning, analysis and execution skills
  • First proven leadership experience
  • Cross functional experience required
  • Intercultural / international project management experience required
  • Ability to interact effectively within multiple hierarchal levels
  • Excellent communication skills (oral & written); fluent in English, additional language(s) a plus
  • Proficient in Windows / Microsoft Office; experience with ERP platforms (SAP is a plus)
  • Able to travel domestically and internationally – approximately 25%
